Laser Hair Removal Instructions
Laser Hair Removal Pre-Care Instructions
- Avoid Sun Exposure: For at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanning products. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of complications.
- Shave the Treatment Area: Shave the area you plan to treat 24-48 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, tweeze, or bleach the hair, as the laser targets the hair follicle, and these methods disrupt the hair growth cycle.
- Avoid Certain Treatments & Skin Products: Discontinue use of any exfoliating products or creams that contain Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or other strong acids for at least 5 days before your treatment. These can make your skin more sensitive. Do not use any chemical peels, laser treatments, or invasive procedures on the treatment area for at least 1-2 weeks before your session.
- Shower and Cleanse: On the day of your appointment, shower and cleanse the area to remove any lotions, oils, or deodorants that could interfere with the treatment.
- Avoid Certain Medications: Notify your practitioner if you are taking any medications that could cause increased sensitivity to light, such as antibiotics, accutane, or other medications that may affect skin sensitivity.
- Wear Loose Clothing: On the day of your treatment, wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent irritation to the treated area.
Laser Hair Removal Post-Care Instructions
- Cool the Treated Area: Apply a cold compress to the treated area to soothe any redness or mild swelling.
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks after your treatment. If you must be outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
- Avoid Heat: Refrain from hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours post-treatment to minimize irritation.
- Do Not Scrub or Exfoliate: Avoid scrubbing, exfoliating, or using harsh skincare products on the treated area for at least 5-7 days. Your skin will be more sensitive during this time.
- Shaving Only: If necessary, shave the treated area between sessions. Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams as this can interfere with the laser hair removal process.
- Mild Redness or Swelling: It is normal to experience mild redness, swelling, or a sensation of warmth in the treated area. This usually resolves within a few hours to a couple of days.
- Avoid Tight Clothing: Avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing over the treated area that could cause friction or irritation, especially within the first 48 hours.
- Follow Up Appointments: Laser hair removal typically requires multiple treatments to achieve optimal results. Ensure you schedule your follow-up sessions as advised by your practitioner to achieve long-lasting results.
- Notify Your Provider: If you experience excessive redness, blistering, or signs of infection, contact your provider immediately.
