What is Hylenex Filler Reversal?
One of the major appeals of the HA fillers is that they are reversible and are temporary. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that is the “reversal” medicine used to dissolve HA fillers. Unhappy with injections you received elsewhere? We can dissolve it for you and start fresh.
During your comprehensive consultation at Arsenault Aesthetics, we will assess areas where you have previously had filler and determine if old filler needs to be dissolved prior to treatment for optimal results.

Hylenex FAQ
What is Hylenex?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that is used as the “reversal” to dissolve the HA fillers.
Is the injection painful?
A typical Hylenex treatment is less than 5 minutes and very comfortable. Topical numbing is applied to the treatment area. At Arsenault Aesthetics, we have a specialized “hylenex cocktail” that we use to make it extra tolerable for our patients.
Is there any downtime?
Some swelling and bruising are experienced after treatment. Swelling typically resolves within 24 hours. Bruising can last up to 1 week.
How long does Hylenex take to work?
How long after getting filler can I have it reversed?
Filler can be dissolved or reversed at any time using Hylenex.
How many treatments with Hylenex will it take to dissolve old filler?
There are variations in the number of Hylenex treatments required to dissolve a filler. The type of filler and how long the filler has been there play a role in the total number of treatments needed. Typically 1-3 treatments are required.
What brands of filler can Hylenex reverse?
Hylenex is specifically designed to reverse hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Some of the popular brands that can be effectively dissolved using Hylenex include Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, Versa and RHA fillers. It is important to note that Hylenex is not effective in reversing non-hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Sculptra or Radiesse. If you are unsure about the type of filler you received, consult with your specialist at Arsenault Aesthetics to determine if Hylenex is a suitable treatment option for you.
When can I get more filler after my Hylenex treatment?
Why is Hylenex the preferred brand of hyaluronidase at Arsenault Aesthetics?
While there are many variations of hyaluronidase available in the US (Hylenex, Hydase, Vitrase, Amphadase), the preferred brand at Arsenault Aesthetics is Hylenex, because it is a human recombinant form and is the least likely to have an allergic/anaphylaxis reaction.
In what situations is Hylenex used?
Is Hylenex filler removal good for both men and women?
How Hylenex Works
Hylenex is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that can dissolve and reverse the effects of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. It contains an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which effectively breaks down the hyaluronic acid molecules in the filler, allowing your body to safely absorb and metabolize them.
We cannot stress this enough: it is extremely important that you select the right injector for optimal results. Undesirable filler outcomes are almost always avoidable when you choose a provider with extensive training and expertise. At Arsenault Aesthetics, we take great care to administer all of our injectables (including Hylenex) in a way that ensures natural-looking results and helps you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Hylenex is an ideal treatment for those who wish to correct overfilled areas or adjust previous filler results. If you’ve experienced undesirable outcomes from past filler treatments, our team at Arsenault Aesthetics can help reverse those effects with Hylenex, giving you a fresh start. This safe and effective option allows you to achieve the desired outcome without waiting for the filler to break down naturally over time.
What to Expect
Your Hylenex appointment at Arsenault Aesthetics will begin with a consultation where your provider will evaluate the treated area and discuss your concerns and goals for the reversal. This allows us to create a customized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.
Once the plan is finalized, your specialist will cleanse the area and may apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Using a fine needle, Hylenex will be strategically injected into the areas where the filler needs to be dissolved.
After the Hylenex treatment, you may experience mild swelling or bruising at the injection sites, which usually subside within a few hours to a couple of days. It is advised to avoid strenuous activities and excessive heat exposure for 24 hours following the procedure. Most patients can resume their normal daily activities and skincare routines shortly after the treatment. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.
Hylenex Treatment Applications
If your lips have been previously overfilled with dermal fillers, there is filler migration, or if there is an imbalance in the volume distribution, Hylenex can be used to dissolve the excess filler and restore a more natural, symmetrical appearance. Our master injectors at Arsenault Aesthetics want to ensure you have a beautiful, natural result. If seeing us for the first time with previous lip filler, we will do a thorough assessment of your lips to determine if dissolving the old filler is the best option before doing lip filler again.
Hylenex can help to adjust the volume and contours of previously placed cheek filler, achieving a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance.
If hyaluronic acid fillers were used to correct under eye hollows or tear troughs but resulted in an uneven or overfilled appearance, Hylenex can help to dissolve the filler and refine the treatment outcome.
If you have had a non-surgical rhinoplasty using hyaluronic acid fillers and are unhappy with the outcome, Hylenex can be used to dissolve the filler and return your nose to its pre-treatment state.
If you’ve previously received dermal filler injections to enhance your jawline or chin and the results are not as desired, Hylenex can be used to dissolve the filler and adjust the treatment outcome.
Hylenex is effective in addressing lumps, bumps, or other irregularities caused by uneven distribution of dermal fillers. By dissolving the filler, Hylenex can help to create a smoother, more natural-looking result.
In some cases, hyaluronic acid fillers may migrate from the initial injection site to surrounding areas, causing unintended changes to facial features. Hylenex can be used to dissolve the migrated filler and restore your natural appearance.
