What is a BBL Photofacial?
The effects of sun exposure, an active lifestyle and the natural aging process have an impact on the health and appearance of your skin. As “the next generation of IPL” a BBL Photofacial treatment restores your skin’s natural beauty, making it clearer, smoother, and more vibrant.
Light therapy is one of the best weapons in a skin health regimen. Using specific light filters, BBL Photofacial targets discoloration, sun damage, broken capillaries and veins. Light therapy improves skin tone by stimulating cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin. With virtually no downtime, BBL Photofacial is easy to incorporate into your anti-aging regimen.

BBL Photofacial FAQ
How does a BBL Photofacial treatment improve skin health?
Skin rejuvenation occurs as pulses of light energy delivered from the BBL gently heat the upper layers of skin. Specific light filters target selected areas such as sun spots or freckles (brown pigmentation) or redness from broken capillary vessels and rosacea. The targeted areas absorb the heat fading pigmentation and minimizing redness. Skin cells respond by stimulating collagen, improving the appearance and health of damaged skin.
What happens during a BBL Photofacial treatment?
Prior to the treatment, your provider will assess your skin for recent sun exposure. We recommend avoiding sun exposure 7 days prior to a BBL treatment. Protective eye shields will be applied. As the treatment begins you will feel warmth or a “rubber band snap” sensation to the area the BBL is delivering light energy. The treatment will last 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the area.
Is a BBL Photofacial permanent?
While a BBL photofacial can deliver long-lasting results, it is not a permanent solution. To maintain optimal results, we recommend a series of treatments, followed by maintenance sessions as needed. The frequency of treatments will depend on your skin type and individual needs, at home skin care routine, sun exposure and lifestyle.
What does a BBL Photofacial treat?
A BBL photofacial is effective in treating a variety of skin concerns, specifically brown spots and freckles and acne. It also promotes collagen production, resulting in improved skin texture and overall skin rejuvenation.
Will BBL Photofacial tighten skin?
BBL photofacial can help tighten and firm the skin by stimulating collagen production. However, it is not specifically designed for significant skin tightening. For more targeted skin tightening, we recommend Sofwave.
What is the recovery time for a BBL Photofacial?
There is no downtime. You should be able to resume your normal activities. Following your treatment, you may notice some redness, like a mild sunburn. This will resolve in a few hours. Pigmented lesions will darken or “coffee-grind” and slough off in 4-10 days. It is important to use a mineral based sunscreen daily before and after your treatment.
Can you treat more than just the face?
Broadband Light (BBL) treatments are effective at treating all areas of the body. The most common areas are the face, neck, décolleté, back of hands, and forearms.
What is the difference between BBL and IPL laser treatments?
BBL (BroadBand Light) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) are similar technologies that use light energy to treat various skin concerns. The primary difference is that BBL uses a broader range of wavelengths, allowing for more precise and customized treatments. This versatility makes BBL more effective for a wider variety of skin issues and types.
Can you wear makeup after a BBL Photofacial?
You can wear makeup after a BBL photofacial, but it is recommended to wait at least 24 hours to allow your skin to recover. Be sure to use gentle, non-irritating products and apply sunscreen with at least SPF 50 to protect your skin from sun exposure.
How often should I have a BBL treatment?
If you have never had a BBL treatment, we recommend 3 treatments spaced one month apart for optimal results. To maintain results, it is recommended to repeat a BBL treatment every 6 months. If you want the most anti-aging BBL can provide, studies have shown that treating your skin with the Sciton BBL 3-4 times a year actually affects gene expression, making your cells act younger, which significantly delays skin aging!
Is a BBL Photofacial good for both men and women?
How BBL Photofacials Work
BBL photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes advanced BroadBand Light technology to target and treat a variety of skin concerns. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted areas, such as pigmented lesions, broken capillaries, or acne-causing bacteria, breaking them down and stimulating the body’s natural healing process.
As a result, the skin’s appearance is improved, with a reduction in brown spots, freckles, and sun damage. The BBL photofacial also stimulates collagen production, promoting smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. At Arsenault Aesthetics, our skilled skin care specialists customize each BBL treatment to suit your individual needs, ensuring the most effective results for your specific skin concerns.
What to Expect
Your BBL photofacial appointment at Arsenault Aesthetics will begin with a thorough consultation, during which your skin care specialist will discuss your concerns and desired results. Based on your unique needs, a personalized treatment plan will be designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
During the procedure, your skin will be cleansed, and a cooling gel may be applied for enhanced comfort. Protective eyewear will be provided to ensure your safety. The BBL device will then be used to deliver light energy to the targeted areas, which may cause a mild snapping or stinging sensation. The treatment usually lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated.
After your BBL photofacial, you may experience temporary redness and mild swelling, which should subside within a few hours to a couple of days. In the days following BBL, the brown pigmentation treated by the laser will get temporarily darker, a process called “coffee grinding.” This should resolve in 4-10 days. It is essential to avoid direct sun exposure and apply sunscreen with at least SPF 50 to protect your skin during the healing process.
You can expect to see noticeable improvements in your skin’s appearance within a few weeks, with optimal results typically visible after a series of treatments.
BBL Photofacial Treatment Applications
BBL photofacial effectively targets and breaks down sunspots and age spots, resulting in a more even and radiant complexion. The light energy penetrates the skin, breaking down excess pigment to reveal a clearer and brighter appearance.
BBL photofacial is a popular treatment for reducing facial redness and the symptoms of rosacea. By targeting and breaking down blood vessels that cause redness, BBL helps to restore an even skin tone and alleviate rosacea symptoms. However, even though BBL can help with redness, for a more specific redness treatment, we recommend our VBeam PDL laser treatment.
BBL photofacial can help treat active acne breakouts and reduce acne scarring. The treatment targets acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation and promoting clearer skin. In addition, it can help stimulate collagen production, which may improve the appearance of acne scars.
BBL photofacial stimulates collagen production, leading to smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. By promoting collagen growth, the treatment can improve skin texture, minimize fine lines, and restore a more youthful appearance. However, at Arsenault Aesthetics we consider this a positive side benefit of the treatment. For even greater collagen and skin rejuvenation, and for more specific texture improvement, we recommend Microneedling.
BBL photofacial effectively targets and eliminates broken capillaries and small spider veins, restoring a more even and balanced complexion. The light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, causing them to collapse and be naturally removed by the body. However, even though BBL can help with redness, for a more specific redness treatment we recommend our VBeam PDL laser.
BBL photofacial can improve overall skin tone and texture by reducing pigmentation issues and stimulating collagen production. This leads to a brighter, more even complexion and smoother, more refined skin texture.
BBL photofacial can help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores by stimulating collagen production, which tightens and firms the skin. As a result, pores may appear smaller and less noticeable, giving the skin a more refined appearance. However, even though a BBL photofacial can help with pore size, if your main objective is pore size improvement, we recommend microneedling.
