What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable medication that is used to re-contour the face and other body areas by adding volume, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance. It is composed of poly-L-lactic acid and is designed to stimulate your body’s own collagen production over a period of 1-3 months.
One of the primary benefits of Sculptra is its long-lasting results. While other injectables may require multiple treatments to maintain their effects, Sculptra can provide results that last up to two years with just a few sessions. The treatment works by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production and the results gradually appear with time, resulting in a subtle and natural-looking enhancement.

Sculptra FAQ
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a sterile, injectable, biocompatible, biodegradable material that is made of very small particles of a synthetic polymer named “poly-L-lactic acid” (PLLA), carboxymethylcellulose (USP), non-pyrogenic mannitol (USP) and sterile water for injection (USP). It is considered a biostimulating filler.
How long does Sculptra last?
You can expect results to last over 2 years, but with continued maintenance (1-2 vials per year), results can last much longer.
How long does Sculptra take to work?
Sculptra works gradually over a period of several weeks to months. You may begin to see improvements in your skin's volume and fullness within 4-6 weeks, with optimal results typically visible after 2-3 treatment sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.
Does Sculptra work immediately?
No. Unlike other wrinkle fillers, Sculptra provides a gradual improvement of the depressed area over several weeks as the treatment effects occur. During your first session, your injector intentionally under-corrects the area rather than filling it completely, since results build gradually. It may seem that your treatment worked immediately because of swelling caused by injection and the water used to prepare Sculptra. This usually resolves in several hours to a few days and may cause the original wrinkle to reappear: you may look as you did before your treatment. Visible wrinkle correction results appear slowly. Your healthcare provider should see you again in eight or more weeks to decide if you need additional injections.
How often are Sculptra treatments given?
Your healthcare provider should see you at approximately eight to twelve weeks after each treatment session to assess whether you need additional treatment.
How many Sculptra treatments are required?
You may need one to four treatment sessions to achieve the optimal correction.
What can I expect after a Sculptra treatment?
As with any injectable wrinkle filler, you can expect injection-related side effects, such as bleeding, tenderness or pain/discomfort, redness, bruising, or swelling. These side effects generally resolve within a few hours to a few days but could last for 14 days or longer.
Is Sculptra safe?
Yes, Sculptra is a safe FDA approved dermal filler. As with all medical procedures, there are risks, so it is important to choose the right provider to do your Sculptra treatment. Our master injectors at Arsenault Aesthetics are highly skilled, trained and experienced in advanced injection techniques.
Does Sculptra hurt?
Topical anesthetic is used prior to treatment so minimal discomfort is felt during a Sculptra treatment.
What is Sculptra BBL?
Sculptra BBL is a nonsurgical butt lift using Sculptra to fill hip dips or to enhance the overall volume.
Is Sculptra a filler?
Yes, Sculptra is a filler. It is considered a bio stimulating filler. It is not a hyaluronic acid filler.
What's the difference between Sculptra and Radiesse filler?
Sculptra and Radiesse are both dermal fillers, but they work in different ways. Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid-based filler that stimulates collagen production, while Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite filler that provides instant volume and stimulates collagen growth as well. Sculptra offers more gradual, long-lasting results, whereas Radiesse provides immediate volume with results that typically last for about 12-18 months.
Is Sculptra good for both men and women?
Yes! Sculptra benefits both men and women.
Who should not get Sculptra?
Sculptra is not appropriate for patients with severe allergies, a history of anaphylaxis, or multiple severe allergies, since Sculptra may cause an allergic reaction. It is also not appropriate for anyone allergic to any Sculptra ingredient, including poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), carboxymethylcellulose (USP), or non-pyrogenic mannitol (USP).
How Sculptra Works
Sculptra is a unique dermal filler that works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production to improve facial volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds. As we age, our collagen production decreases, resulting in sagging skin and loss of volume. Sculptra, when expertly injected by our skilled providers at Arsenault Aesthetics in Lakewood Ranch, helps to gradually restore lost volume and promote a more youthful appearance.
Composed of poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra is gradually absorbed by the body and replaced with new collagen. This process results in a natural-looking, long-lasting improvement in skin texture, fullness, and overall facial aesthetics. Sculptra is particularly effective for treating deep lines, hollows, and volume loss in the cheeks, temples, and chin area.

What to Expect
During your Sculptra appointment at Arsenault Aesthetics, your provider will start by discussing your aesthetic concerns, goals, and treatment expectations. A thorough examination of your facial structure and skin condition will be conducted to determine the best approach for your unique needs.
Once a personalized treatment plan is established, your provider will cleanse and prepare the treatment area. A topical numbing agent may be applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Sculptra will then be carefully and precisely injected into the targeted areas, stimulating collagen production and providing gradual volume restoration.
After your Sculptra treatment, you can expect some mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, which should resolve within a few days to a few weeks. You may be advised to massage the treated areas gently for several days to help distribute the product evenly. It’s important to avoid strenuous activities and excessive sun exposure for the first 24-48 hours following your treatment.
As Sculptra works gradually, you will notice improvements in your skin’s fullness and overall appearance over the weeks and months following your treatment. Optimal results are typically achieved after 2-3 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, providing long-lasting, natural-looking rejuvenation.
Sculptra Treatment Areas
Sculptra is an option for restoring lost volume in the cheeks, creating a more youthful and lifted appearance. By stimulating collagen production, Sculptra gradually improves the fullness and contour of the cheeks, resulting in a natural-looking enhancement. Sculptra specifically does well in restoring volume in the lower cheek hollowing for individuals that need more overall facial volume or following significant weight loss.
Hollow temples can make the face look gaunt and aged. Sculptra can be used to replenish volume in the temples, providing a more balanced and youthful appearance. The treatment helps to restore facial harmony and improve the overall aesthetics of the face.
Sculptra can be used to enhance the chin, providing a more defined and structured look. By gradually building collagen in the chin area, Sculptra can improve facial proportions and create a more balanced profile.
A well-defined jawline is a key element of an attractive and youthful face. Sculptra can be used to create a more sculpted and refined jawline by stimulating collagen production, enhancing the natural structure and definition of the area.
Deepening nasolabial folds can be a sign of aging and volume loss in the face. Sculptra is an effective treatment for smoothing out these lines, providing a more youthful and refreshed appearance. By encouraging collagen growth, Sculptra helps to restore the skin’s natural elasticity and firmness.
Marionette lines are the vertical lines that extend from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. Sculptra can help to soften these lines, creating a smoother and more youthful look. The treatment works by stimulating collagen production, which helps to fill in and plump up the skin in the affected area.
The pre-jowl sulcus is the hollow area that can develop on either side of the chin as a result of aging and volume loss. Sculptra can be used to restore volume in this area, providing a more youthful and harmonious facial appearance and jawline.
Sculptra can also be used to rejuvenate the hands, addressing volume loss and visible signs of aging. By stimulating collagen production, Sculptra helps to restore a more youthful and plump appearance to the hands, reducing the visibility of veins and tendons.
Sculptra can be used as a non-surgical alternative to traditional Brazilian Butt Lift procedures. By stimulating collagen production in the buttocks, Sculptra can gradually improve the shape, contour, and fullness of the area without the need for surgery or fat transfer. Sculptra can add overall lift and volume and can address “hip dips.”
However, HA fillers are another option that can be used for these treatment areas. The choice of treatment will depend on your individual needs and goals, so it’s important to work with a qualified provider who can assess your concerns, discuss the benefits and potential risks of each treatment, and help you make an informed decision.
