What is PRF for Hairloss?
Platelet-Rich Fibrin, also known as PRF, is a comprehensive therapy used for hair rejuvenation. In PRF, the patient’s own blood is drawn, spun down in a centrifuge and the plasma isolated to use during the PRF injection treatment.
The plasma or “liquid gold” is rich in growth factors that promote hair regeneration. PRF hair loss treatments are recommended for patients with non-scarring hair loss conditions such as androgenic alopecia (female/male pattern hairloss), alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, etc.

PRF Hair Restoration FAQ
What does PRF for hair restoration treatments do?
PRF for hairloss helps prevent further loss and stimulates hair regrowth. This can be used to treat non-scarring hair loss conditions such as androgenic alopecia (female/male pattern hairloss), alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, etc.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
PRF is basically the PRP 2.0. The way the blood is processed in PRF vs PRP, more healing factors are generated, making the treatment more effective. The “liquid gold” is richer. PRF is also completely natural whereas PRP includes some additives or anti-coagulants. The absence of these extra additives in the PRF allows the PRF to steadily release the growth factors into the skin over a longer period of time, enhancing the results compared to regular PRP.
Is PRF for Hairloss Safe?
Using PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) as a treatment for hair loss is natural. PRF is made from your blood, and there is little risk of allergic reactions. In addition, the concentrated blood plasma or platelets contain healing growth factors and is the part of blood that starts the coagulation process.
Is PRF better than PRP for Hairloss?
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is considered a more advanced option for hair loss treatment compared to PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). PRF has a higher concentration of growth factors and a natural fibrin matrix, leading to improved hair growth and better overall results.
What is the success rate of PRF hair treatment?
The success rate of PRF hair treatment is quite high, with most patients experiencing significant improvements in hair density and thickness. Results can vary depending on the individual and the underlying cause of hair loss, but many patients report a 70-85% success rate in seeing a notable amount of hair regrowth.
Is PRF hair restoration permanent?
PRF hair restoration is not a permanent solution, but it can provide long-lasting results. Regular maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain the positive effects of PRF and to continue promoting hair growth.
What happens during treatment?
During treatment, we will first start by numbing the treatment area with a topical anesthetic. This procedure involves multiple injections of PRF, so depending on the patient, the numbing time may be up to 1 hour to help optimize the patient’s comfort level during treatment. Towards the end of the numbing, the patient’s own blood is drawn, spun down in a centrifuge and the plasma isolated. The plasma is then injected under the skin throughout the treatment area.
When do you see results?
You will start to see results within 1 to 2 months. Most patients report full results are seen around 6 months. On-going treatments are recommended to maintain your results.
How many treatments do I need?
To start, we recommend 3-4 treatments spaced one month apart. After the initial treatments, patients can typically switch to maintenance treatments. We recommend 1 treatment every 3-6 months for maintenance.
How long do PRF treatments for hair last?
The effects of PRF treatments for hair restoration can last as long as maintenance treatments continue. The longevity of results may vary depending on the individual's hair growth cycle and the underlying cause of hair loss. Regular maintenance treatments are key to maintain optimal results.
Can I wash my hair after a PRF hair treatment?
Yes, you can wash your hair after a PRF hair treatment. It is generally recommended to wait 2-4 hours after the treatment before washing your hair to ensure optimal absorption of the growth factors in the PRF.
Can PRF regrow hair in bald areas?
PRF can help stimulate hair growth in thinning areas and may improve hair density in balding areas. However, it may not be as effective in completely bald areas where hair follicles are no longer active. A consultation with an Arsenault Aesthetics specialist can help determine if PRF is the right treatment for your specific hair loss situation.
Is PRF hair restoration effective for both men and women?
Yes! This treatment benefits both men and women.
How PRF Hair Restoration Works
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is a natural, non-surgical hair restoration treatment that harnesses the power of your body’s own growth factors and healing properties. At Arsenault Aesthetics in Lakewood Ranch, our skilled specialists use PRF to stimulate hair growth and improve hair density. PRF can be used to treat the scalp and eyebrows to promote hair regrowth. During the treatment, a blood draw is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from other blood components. This concentrated PRF is then carefully injected into the scalp’s thinning or balding areas, where it releases growth factors that promote hair growth, strengthen hair follicles, and increase blood supply to the scalp. PRF for hair restoration is a safe, all-natural and effective treatment for both men and women, and offers long-lasting results. What to Expect
Your PRF Hair Restoration journey at Arsenault Aesthetics begins with a thorough consultation, where our specialists discuss your hair loss concerns and assess your suitability for PRF treatment.
Following the consultation, a simple blood draw from the arm will be done. The blood is then processed in a specialized centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich fibrin. Our skilled practitioners will then administer the PRF injections into the targeted areas of your scalp or eyebrows, using a fine needle to minimize discomfort. Topical numbing cream is used on the treatment area to minimize discomfort.
The entire PRF hair restoration procedure typically takes about an hour to complete. After the treatment, you may experience mild swelling and tenderness, which should subside within 24 hours. It is recommended to wait 2-4 hours before washing your hair and to avoid strenuous activities for the remainder of the day.
PRF Hair Restoration Treatment Options
PRF Hair Restoration is effective in treating general hair thinning caused by factors such as aging, hormonal imbalances, or stress. By injecting PRF into the areas of thinning hair, it stimulates hair growth, strengthens hair follicles, and improves overall hair density.
