What is Kybella?
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatment to improve moderate to severe fat beneath the chin (the dreaded double chin!) by permanently destroying the fat cells in the treatment area.
Once injected, Kybella, made of deoxycholic acid, destroys the fat cells. These damaged cells are then gradually metabolized by the body over the next couple of weeks, resulting in a reduction in the volume of the treatment region.
In addition to being the go-to treatment for a double chin, Kybella is now also being used for getting rid of unwanted fat in areas such as the lower buttocks, the back (for bra bulges), the armpits, the inner knees, and the lower belly. Since it is a minimally invasive technique, Kybella is fast emerging as the the preferred alternative to more invasive procedures such as liposuction.

Kybella FAQ
What are the benefits of Kybella?
In some people, diet and exercise will tone arms, legs or define abs but not minimize a double chin. The extra fat pad under the chin may be genetic or has become more prominent with age. Kybella is an excellent alternative to more invasive procedures such as liposuction or neck lift. Downtime is minimal and recovery is simple.
Does Kybella work?
Yes, Kybella is a highly effective treatment for reducing submental fat, also known as the double chin. It can also treat areas such as bra fat, knee fat, jowls, upper arms, and buffalo humps. It contains deoxycholic acid, which breaks down fat cells, allowing your body to naturally eliminate them.
Is Kybella permanent?
Yes, Kybella provides permanent results. Once the fat cells are destroyed and eliminated, they cannot regenerate. However, it's essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent new fat accumulation.
Is Kybella safe?
Kybella is FDA-approved and safe when administered by a trained professional, like the master injectors at Arsenault Aesthetics. As with any treatment, there are potential side effects, but they are usually mild and temporary.
Who is a good candidate for Kybella?
Kybella is ideal for someone with a distinct appearance of fat under the chin and good skin elasticity. An in-office, non-invasive procedure, it is an option for the individual who does not want surgery. Kybella does not treat skin laxity, tighten muscle or treat neck wrinkles, therefore your injector will evaluate your area of concern and determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella.
What happens during a Kybella treatment?
Prior to the treatment, a topical anesthetic may be applied to numb the area. During treatment, a small needle or cannula (blunt tip needle) is used to inject Kybella into the treatment area. A small burning or stinging can be felt during treatment but is mild and tolerable. Small ice packs are provided after the treatment to help with swelling and discomfort.
Does Kybella hurt?
Kybella injections can cause mild discomfort, but a topical anesthetic can be applied beforehand to minimize any pain. The treatment is generally well-tolerated by most patients.
What is the downtime with Kybella treatments?
There is minimal downtime with the procedure. After the treatment you may experience mild swelling and discomfort. This can be alleviated with ice packs and over the counter pain medication. Swelling is expected and usually lasts around 1 week, but may linger for a few weeks depending on the person. Bruising is also possible. Please allow 2 weeks prior to any special event to allow adequate time for swelling and bruising to resolve.
How long does Kybella swelling last?
Visible swelling from a Kybella treatment typically lasts one week. Some people experience swelling up to 4 weeks. The swelling is a sign that the treatment is working, and it will subside as your body processes the dissolved fat cells.
How many Kybella treatments do I need?
The number of Kybella treatments is determined by the amount of fat in the treatment area, your overall aesthetic goals and your body’s response to the treatment. In most patients, visible results are generally seen with 2 - 4 treatments. Each treatment is spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
How long does it take for Kybella to work?
Kybella begins breaking down fat cells immediately after the injection procedure. Treatment results gradually develop over the first few weeks as the body absorbs the dissolved fat cells. Once the cells dissolve, fat can no longer accumulate there. Collagen production is also stimulated in the healing process leading to a tauter jawline. Some patients may require multiple treatments to achieve their aesthetic goal.
Can I sleep on my side after Kybella?
Yes, although it is recommended to sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first few nights after Kybella treatment. This position helps minimize swelling and promotes proper healing.
Can you get Kybella while pregnant?
Kybella treatments are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, as the safety and potential effects on the baby have not been thoroughly studied.
Can I exercise after Kybella?
It's recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours after Kybella treatment, as physical activity can exacerbate swelling and delay the healing process.
Can I drink alcohol after Kybella?
It's advised to avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours after your Kybella treatment. Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and prolong the healing process.
Does Kybella work on belly fat and/or love handles?
Kybella can be used to treat other areas of the body, such as the abdomen or love handles, although other treatment modalities such as Coolsculpting may be recommended for these larger treatment areas.
Is Kybella good for men and women?
Yes! This treatment benefits both men and women.
How Kybella Works
Kybella is an innovative injectable treatment that specifically targets submental fat or the double chin and other areas of the body with small extra pockets of fat. It contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, which helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When Kybella is injected into fat, it destroys fat cells, leading to a noticeable reduction in fullness.
The skilled Master Injectors at Arsenault Aesthetics in Lakewood Ranch carefully administer Kybella injections to ensure optimal results while maintaining a natural appearance. Over a series of treatments, Kybella gradually eliminates unwanted fat, helping you achieve a more defined and contoured jawline or your desired result for the specific treatment area.
What to Expect
During your Kybella appointment at Arsenault Aesthetics, your provider will begin by discussing your aesthetic concerns and goals. They will then assess the treatment area and determine the appropriate amount of Kybella needed to achieve your desired results.
Before the injections, a topical anesthetic will be applied to ensure your comfort. Your provider will then administer Kybella directly into the fat beneath your chin using a fine needle or cannula. The entire process typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
After your Kybella treatment, you may experience mild discomfort, burning, redness, or bruising, but these side effects usually subside within a few minutes to a few days. Most patients can resume their daily activities immediately, but it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours following the procedure. It’s also important to follow any post-treatment instructions provided by your practitioner to ensure optimal results and proper healing.
Kybella Treatment Applications
Kybella can be used off-label to target excess fat in the jowls, the area along the jawline where sagging skin and fat tend to accumulate with age. By reducing the fat in this area, Kybella can help create a more sculpted and youthful facial profile.
Another off-label use for Kybella is to address the stubborn fat that can accumulate around the bra line. By injecting Kybella into this area, patients may see a reduction in the appearance of bra bulges, both on the front and back, leading to a smoother and more toned appearance.
Kybella can also be used off-label to target and reduce small pockets of fat that can accumulate around the knees. By breaking down these fat cells, Kybella can help create a more contoured and streamlined appearance in the knee area.
Some patients have seen success with Kybella being used off-label to address excess fat in the upper arms. By reducing fat deposits in this area, Kybella can help create a more toned and sleek appearance in the arms.
