What is a VISIA Skin Analysis?
VISIA is an advanced facial imaging system developed by Canfield Scientific, the industry leader in clinical skin imaging. In just a few minutes, it captures a detailed picture of your skin, both at the surface and below it, measuring eight key aspects of your complexion, including sun damage that is invisible to the naked eye.
During your analysis, you simply rest your face against the imaging unit while it captures a series of high-resolution photographs using three types of light: standard, cross-polarized, and ultraviolet. Each lighting mode reveals something different. Standard light shows your skin as you see it in the mirror. Cross-polarized light looks beneath the surface to reveal redness and pigmentation forming below. UV light exposes sun damage that has not yet become visible, giving you a preview of where your skin is headed without intervention.
The system then scores your skin across eight categories, comparing your results to a large database of people with your age and skin type. The result is a clear, objective baseline of your skin’s health, and a roadmap for improving it. At Arsenault Aesthetics in Lakewood Ranch, VISIA gives your provider real data about your skin, not guesswork, so your treatment plan starts from an objective baseline.

How we use VISIA at Arsenault Aesthetics
The value of VISIA is not the photos, it is what we do with them. Your provider reviews your results with you and explains what each score means, then recommends the treatments best suited to your specific concerns. If your analysis shows significant sun damage and redness, the Moxi laser or VBeam PDL laser may be the right starting point. Visible texture and fine lines may point toward microneedling. Congested pores and porphyrins suggest a HydraFacial or a customized facial and skin care regimen.
Your results give you and your provider a shared, objective starting point, so you can see exactly what your plan is designed to improve.
What to expect
The analysis takes only a few minutes. You will rest your chin and forehead against the imaging unit while it captures your photos; there is no contact with your skin beyond the rests, no discomfort, and nothing to recover from.
Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin if possible, since makeup can obscure the features the system measures. Afterward, your provider walks you through your results on screen and discusses which treatments align with your goals and your budget. You leave with a clear picture of your skin and a plan.
What Does VISIA Analyze?
A VISIA skin analysis benefits anyone considering skin care treatments, from patients with specific concerns like sun damage or redness to those who simply want an objective picture of their skin’s health before building a treatment plan.
Brown or red marks that stand out from your background skin tone, such as freckles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation.
Furrows, folds, and creases, often related to sun exposure and the natural loss of skin elasticity.
Variations in the smoothness of the skin surface, including raised and depressed areas.
Enlarged pore openings, which appear darker than the surrounding skin.
Sun damage beneath the surface, revealed by ultraviolet photography before it becomes visible to the naked eye.
Pigmentation and discoloration on and below the skin surface, such as melasma and sun spots.
Concentrations of redness that may indicate inflammation, spider veins, or rosacea.
Bacterial excretions lodged in pores, which can signal a tendency toward breakouts.
An AI-powered score that estimates how old your skin appears compared to your actual age, using the world’s largest skin feature database. A helpful reference point when discussing your skin goals with your provider.
